Gift Wrapping December 2007

December 14, 21, 22, 23, 2007 - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. shifts

Thank you to those who have signed up to gift wrap at Barnes and Noble, Fashion Island, 401 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660 (949-718-0109). Our shifts are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and once again we will work with some of the collegians from Sigma Kappa at Cal State Fullerton. We will receive donations for the Sigma Kappa Foundation which supports our organization's philanthropies and scholarship awards. Christmas Party 12-07-07

Time for our annual Christmas Party and Ornament Exchange. Come alone or bring your spouse or date! This is one of our favorite alum group events. This year, it will be at a home in Fountain Valley. Please come so we can get better acquainted with you!

Bring (1) One ornament per couple for the ornament exchange ($10 limit)
(2) Hardy hors d'oeuvres and a beverage (wine, sparkling cider, etc.)
(3) Gift contributions for Maine Sea Coast Mission (new items for children or teens)
(4) Boxed or canned goods to contribute to our outreach to needy senior citizens in our community

Orange County Entertainment Books will be available for purchase ($35, our discounted price). They make great gifts!

Build A Baked Potato Dinner 12-04-07

This is the alum group's event to wish the women of Cal State Fullerton a successful finals week. Come at 5:30 p.m. to help set up or come to dinner at 6 p.m. It will be a short dinner with a chance to visit with the women. After our dinner the women will be having a study night together on campus.

Please sign up to bring one of the following: The chapter has approximately 100 women to feed!

-Butter, margarine, salad dressing for 100 people
-Sour cream for 100 people
-Green salad, 2 people to sign up, each bringing a very large bag to serve 50 people
-Broccoli and bacon bits
-Shredded chicken
-Shredded cheese
-Plates, napkins, cups for 100
-Knives, forks for 100
-Cookies, 2 people to sign up

It's very fun to encourage our sister collegiate chapter! See you on the 4th of December!

Founders Day Luncheon 11-11-07

This year, our Southern California Founders Day Luncheon will be held at the South Coast Winery Resort & Spa in Temecula on Sunday, November 11 at 10:00 am.

Cost is $35/person if the money is received to our treasurer by October lst. This is going to be a gala event in a special setting. The dress is formal meeting attire. RSVP by sending your Founders Day money to our treasurer (check to Sigma Kappa Alum Group: Ellen French, 10346 Nightingale, Fountain Valley, 92708). We will carpool to Temecula. Please make a menu choice of chicken OR vegetarian entree.

Memory Walk 11-03-07

The alum group participated with Sigma Kappas from Cal State Fullerton and UC, Riverside in the November Alzheimers' Association Memory Walk at Camp James in Irvine.

Movie SIG 10-21-07

Our Movie SIG is a small group of women who get together to enjoy a good movie. After the movie, as schedules permit, we get together for coffee and dessert to grow our friendships and talk about the movie. The Sunday afternoon matinee is at 2:00 pm. October Event 10-11-07

Our October Event will take place at a home in Huntington Beach at 7:00 pm. There will be a speaker from the Fashion Design Institute who will talk about making the right impression with fashion choices for work and social events and giving us a glimpse at new fashion trends. We will also still be collecting contributions for our Founders' Day raffle baskets (lavendar, maroon, pearls, violets, doves, stationary, candles, picture frames, kitchen items, towels, bath items, etc.). Book SIG 10-03-07

Our Book SIG is a Special Interest Group for women of all ages who enjoy reading. We share about recent books we have read and often exchange books. Our reading interests are diverse: suspenseful thrillers, biographies, historical fiction, and even sci fi! If you are interested, we will be meeting at a home in Fountain Valley at 7:00 pm. Young Alum SIG 10-02-07

Young Alums, approximately 35 years or younger, are invited to enjoy a social hour at the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Open House Kick-Off Event 09-12-07

We had our annual Open House Kick-Off Event at a home in Newport Beach. Everyone brought an hors d'oeuvre to share. It was a casual event where many of us attended and re-connected or met new members. We collected contributions for our theme baskets that we will be raffling off at the Founders' Day Luncheon as well as books to be donated to the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen after-school tutorial program.
