Let Them Eat Cake 06.15.2010

This event was originally planned for the Young Alum SIG, but we're never too old to enjoy some gourmet cake!   We invite you all to join us with Chris Russom, owner of Christopher Garren's Let Them Eat Cake (as see on the WE network Sunday nights on Amazing Wedding Cakes) at Newport Beach Library. They will be serving up tasty treats and sharing some of their cooking secrets.

In order to participate, you have to pre-order your $20 ticket through the City of Newport Beach website. Space is limited, so it is on a first come first serve basis. Welcome Recent Alum: Flower Arranging 06.05.2010

We will learn about flower arranging and make arrangements while enjoying friendship, conversation, and refreshments.  Please bring/recycle any baskets or vases and plastic insert containers.  Also share backyard greenery, if you can.

For those that can, we will deliver our basket arrangements to residents of a nearby senior living environment.  Please join us for the fun!  Our event picture will be the large picture for our welcome newsletter that we send out to prospective members in August.

Book SIG 05.19.2010

We meet to talk about the books we have read, and we share our books with each other so we get to go home with an endorsed "new read."   Our group has diverse reading interests including historical fiction, mysteries, biographies, sci fi, and thrillers.  We very much enjoy good books and our friendships.  We hope you will consider joining us.

Finals Care Packages for CSUF and UCI 05.06.2010

One of the things we most like to do is support our sister collegiate chapters, and May is our chance to do that.  Please bring goodies for the care packages (snack chips, nuts, candy, cookie packets, cracker packets, granola bars, etc).  We have 200 care packages to fill.  Think generously--perhaps 4-5 dozen items.  This event also allows us to connect and catch up with one another while being good to our sister collegiate chapters.  PLEASE JOIN US!

Scholarship and Alumnae Banquet with UCI Kappa Rho 05.01.2010

Welcome Sigma Kappa Sorority Members!   The VPS, Lili, and the VPAR, Zody, have come together and will be hosting Kappa Rho's first annual end-of-the-year Scholarship & Alumnae Banquet. They are very excited to host this event and would love to have you there. Put on your pearls, a floral dress, and your beautiful smile, because this year's theme is "A Summer Day with Sigma K!"

Young Alum SIG: Bowling 04.21.2010

Calling all young alumnae - We're going bowling again!  Join us for this popular event as we try out a new bowling venue at Disneys' GardenWalk in Anaheim!  We will play a game or two of bowling.  Bowling cost is $6 per person/per game and $5 for shoe rentals.

Following the game at 7 PM, we'll head over to enjoy some dinner at Fire and Ice Grill. This new restaurant lets you make your meal and have it cooked on an open grill, much like a Mongolian style type restaurant.

Movie SIG – The Last Song 04.18.2010

The Movie Sig is planning a Sunday matinee on April 18th and will plan to watch The Last Song with Miley Cyrus and Greg Kinnear.

Please refer back to the Evite for the time and location updates once the movie schedule is confirmed at the theater. Initial interest with movie location preference would be helpful to pick a central location for this event.

Spring Crafts with Kappa Rho (UCI) 04.15.2010

Come get crafty with our sister collegiate chapter, Kappa Rho at UC, Irvine on Thursday April 15 at 7 pm!  We'll be making Spring cards for a local senior center - so bring your crafts to share. We need special edged scissors, construction paper, glue sticks, doilies, lace, felt pens, stickers, stamps, markers and anything else that would make beautiful bright colored cards! 

We will meet in the community room of Vista Del Campo Residence Hall. There will be some visitor parking at the residence hall and car pooling is recommended.  Contact Charlene or Veronica for more information.

2nd Annual Classic Car Show – Alzheimer’s Research Fundraiser 03.27.2010

This is our second annual, Driving Toward a Cure to Defeat Alzheimer’s Disease, Classic Car Show.  Visit the car show website at www.drivingtowardacure.net/ to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, the car show, or to down load the car registration form for classic car and truck owners.

Sigma Kappas will arrive at approximately 7:30 am to lend a hand. Car registrants will arrive at 8 am, while spectators will enjoy the show from 9 am to noon.  The car registrations ($30 per car) and spectator admissions ($10 per person) will be tax deductible as these monies will go directly to the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Alzheimer’s Disease fund.  Of course, even for our own admissions, we can write our checks directly to the Foundation.

PLEASE ATTEND AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT, INVITE YOUR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS, AND PLEASE LEND A HELPING HAND. We know from our inaugural event that this is a fun, festive, and well received event!

We will be using the beautiful and spacious St, Wilfrid’s Episcopal Church parking lot. The church is located at 16631 Chapel Lane, Huntington Beach CA 92646.  From the 405 freeway, exit Beach Blvd., drive toward the ocean, make a left on Ellis, make a right on Chapel Lane. The church is at the end of Chapel Lane on the right.  Call Charlene for questions and for your desire to help on the front lines.

Mom SIG: Peter Green Park 03.12.10

Calling all Sigma Kappa moms!  Please join us on Friday March 12 at 2:30 at Peter Green Park in Huntington Beach.  This is a great park for toddlers and school aged children, but all ages are welcome.  Contact Salina or leave a comment for more information.

Watching Winter Olympics – 02.25.2010

We will connect for friendship and conversation and watching the women’s figure skating at Charlene’s home in Huntington Beach.  The Winter Olympics should be awesome to watch on the theater-size screen in high definition. Let’s relax and enjoy our friendships and cheer on the United States athletes!

The cost will be $37 per person with no beverages (this includes tax and mandatory 18% tip). Plan to bring more money if you'd like to drink something other than water.

Movie SIG – Valentine’s Day 02.21.2010

The Movie SIG enjoyed a Sunday matinee on February 21, 2010.  We saw Valentine’s Day at the Edwards Cinema’s at Irvine Spectrum.  The movie was light-hearted and fun, with a large cast of loveable actors.  We enjoyed catching up with each other and meeting new friends.  We hope you can join us for our next movie sometime this summer!
